KakaoTalk Invades Windows Phone!

KakaoTalk for Windows Phone was released on 21st of June. As you know, Windows Phone is a very unique and interesting operating system, and we had a great time developing it.

You will probably notice that WP version of KakaoTalk’s overall look and layout is a bit different than the our usual design. We wanted to directly imply Windows Phone’s metro look on KakaoTalk.

Here are few key feature of Windows Phone version of KakaoTalk:

-Cross platform messaging application (WP, iPhone, Android, Blackberrry & BADA)
-Overhauled KakaoTalk’s design with WP’s metro look
-Unique ‘Draw With Fingers’ feature allows user to send hand drawn messages to friends. Only available on Windows Phone version
-Able to export chat rooms to ‘Start’ screen for direct access (Group chat room’s shortcut will display all participants profile photo in live tile display mode)
-Easier menu transition with pivot style maneuvering
-Supports both horizontal & vertical display mode
-Supports jump-list index to search through contact list easier
-User can set their own profile photo and status update on their mini profile

KakaoTalk’s Free Call Feature Now Available

Kakao Team has added mVoIP service to KakaoTalk! With voice, Ka-Talking has become more exciting than ever!

KakaoTalk mVoip Overview:

Call anyone, anywhere with KakaoTalk’s Free Call feature available on iPhone & Android devices with 3g and WiFi connection. Unfortunately, Korean users will only be able to answer the call from overseas kakaoTalk users. Additionally, voice filter option has been added for users to call friends with hilarious voice. KakaoTalk’s free calling feature was developed by our in-house mVoIP developers from the ground up. We are very proud of the quality of the service, and hope our users love this new feature.

Voice Filter:

As you’ve seen with our animated emoticon or Plus Friend service, we love to put some little twist in our product. We definitely didn’t want to provide same old-fashioned mVoip services to our users.

The aha moment came when one of our voice developer said, “Hey, I wish I had an attractive voice, because my voice is very creepy on a phone”. Voila, this is how the voice filter option came into place. Believe it or not, his voice sounds more attractive with the ‘Alien’ voice filter : )

How to free call with KakaoTalk:

Click someone you want to call either from KakaoTalk friends list or inside the chat room. The mini profile will pop-up. Press ‘Free Call’ button to call your friend using KakaoTalk’s mVoIP function.

A short message ‘incoming call’ will be sent to a call recipient in a chat room along with call indicator on top of the screen. When the call is connected, call indicator extends to display voice filter option & connection quality.

Please keep in mind that KakaoTalk free call feature will consume mobile data when user is not connected to WiFi. Moreover, mobile devices’ 3G/4G connections may not be stable under some cases. To save on your data plan and enjoy better call quality, we recommend users to use WiFi network to call using KakaoTalk.

The Next Web Asia released an article about KakaoTalk’s Free Call service along with some insight about the company. Follow the link

Here are few user feedbacks from Twitter. Of course, the service quality may vary depending on your handsets and network conditions. However, feedbacks are very positive so far.

The Official Version Of KakaoTalk Launches On Blackberry

The True Cross Platform Messaging App Invades Blackberry

Blackberry messaging just became more interesting with KakaoTalk. The true cross platform messaging app is now available to Blackberry users! Convenient UI, fast loading speed and most of all, it’s absolutely FREE.

KakaoTalk, has officially launched version 2.0 for BlackBerry users. BlackBerry KakaoTalk was in beta phase with version 1.0 up until now, and Kakao Team has been developing the official version of KakaoTalk to deliver the optimum service to their users. The official version improves stability and performance, as well as overall design has been changed to fit KakaoTalk’s original theme.

KakaoTalk allows users to chat with friends either one-to-one or one-to-many across four different mobile platforms. Moreover, users can view friends’ profile photos directly in chatrooms, and friends’ status updates will appear on friends list. ‘Friends’/’Chats’/’Friends?’/’Settings’ tabs have been redesigned to simple icon buttons. Text bubbles in chat rooms also been applied to match with current KakaoTalk on other platforms.

The biggest strength KakaoTalk 2.0 boasts is the shortkeys integrated with BlackBerry devices’ QWERTY keypads. Four menu tabs on main screen, Friends/Chats/Friends?/Settings are locked in to Q,W,E and R for swift and easy use. In Total, there are more than ten functions which can be used with shortkeys. Moreover, users can now experience stable and fast transfer speed of messages with Ignite Engine, which was built by Kakao Team.

Kakao Team is positively considering to deliver other features such as Plus Friend, Animated Emoticons and other extra features that will keep users hooked to KakaoTalk.

We would appreciate if BB KakaoTalk 2.0 users participate the survey which can be found on ‘Notices’ on your KakaoTalk.
